Prof. Ezio Bonifacio, Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden – CRTD
„After having worked in London, in Perth/Australia, and in Milan, I came to Dresden in 2007. Here, I found the perfect environment for my research at the CRTD. When it comes to developing regenerative therapies, we benefit substantially from the interdisciplinary exchange. This applies both to the institute and the city’s scientific community. The diverse disciplines can learn a lot from one another, are able to transfer and harness new findings and results – in particular, because not all of us think in just one direction. The networks linking fundamental research and clinical research as well as the cooperation with the University Hospital are truly extraordinary in Dresden. I think one of the key issues for the CRTD over the next few years is to have fundamental research benefit humans even more.“
The Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) is a research center of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and a cluster of excellence at Dresden University of Technology. The immunologist’s special discipline is conducting research on type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that occurs primarily during childhood and adolescence. The objective is to develop a vaccine for infants which will protect them against type 1 diabetes.
