Saxony as one of Germany’s most dynamic high-tech locations will present itself at the SEMICON West 2022.
A unique concentration of companies providing extensive knowledge and expertise in the sectors microelectronics and nanoelectronics, organic & flexible electronics, energy-efficient IT systems, 5G / 6G, MEMS / sensors, and automation technology / robotics is found in the region between Dresden, Freiberg and Chemnitz.
In Saxony, approx. 2,500 companies with a total of 70,000 employees are active along all steps of the ICT value creation chain: They develop, manufacture, and promote integrated circuits, or serve as materials and equipment suppliers to the chip industry, produce and distribute electronic products and systems based on integrated circuits, or develop and promote software.
Every third chip produced in Europe bears the label "Made in Saxony". BOSCH, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, and Infineon Technologies operate some of the most modern semiconductor fabs to be found anywhere on the globe.
"Silicon Saxony" aptly demonstrates its innovative power in diverse fields: In Dresden’s 5G Lab Germany, more than 600 scientists are working on the development of key 5G / 6G technologies to be used, for example, for autonomous driving and smart factories. Saxony also assumes a strong position when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) – with a total of three research centers of the Fraunhofer Society and the semiconductor producer Infineon. The "ScaDS.AI - Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence," which was founded in Leipzig by partners from business, science, and politics in 2019, wants to transfer the possibilities of AI into practical applications.
On behalf of the Saxony State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport, the Saxony Economic Development Corporation (WFS) has organized the presentation of high-tech location SAXONY! during the SEMICON West trade fair in San Francisco.
