SAXONY! at the Smart City Expo 2023

Welcome to Saxony!

Saxony has unique prerequisites for the development of smart city technologies: In “Autoland Saxony,” VW is expanding its Zwickau plant into Europe’s largest production site for e-mobility, and it operates a “Future Mobility Incubator” for startups in Dresden. “Silicon Saxony,” Europe’s largest ICT cluster, makes a valuable contribution to the autonomous mobility of the future above all with its expertise in 5G / connectivity, but also with sensor systems and software solutions for intelligent driver assistance and traffic systems. Saxony as a machine construction venue with a long and memorable tradition is a strong partner in automation all the way to the “smart”, connected factory.

Saxony's cities build on these competencies and consolidate them in pioneering smart city projects. The trade fair metropolis Leipzig is looking for intelligent, integrated energy solutions as a “Lighthouse City” within the framework of the EU SPARCS project. Saxony’s state capital Dresden has one of the most advanced traffic management systems in the world and operates one of the largest hybrid bus fleets in mass transit. Zwickau is working together with the VW Group on connected urban mobility, and Chemnitz is an urban lab in the German research association “Smart Urban Services.”
