TECHNOLOGY AND START-UP CENTERS IN SAXONY

A network of technology and start-up centers provides young technological enterprises and business founders the requisite assistance and support which they need on their way towards economic independence and self-employment. The centers are distributed throughout the entire federal state; most of them are found in an environment dominated by science and industry. TECHNOLOGIE ZENTRUM DRESDEN [TECHNOLOGY CENTER DRESDEN] – LOCATIONS NORTH AND SOUTH

The TechnologieZentrumDresden (TZD) [Technology Center Dresden] was founded in 1990 as a joint enterprise of Dresden University of Technology, the City of Dresden, the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden savings bank, and the Technology Center Dortmund. The TZD is one of the largest German technology centers which provides a customized infrastructure and multifaceted services to suit the needs and requirements of innovative start-ups as well as small and medium sized enterprises. The industrial focus of the TZD’s Location North is on micro and nano electronics, microsystems technology, and environmental technology. In close proximity to the large semiconductor factories of Infineon and GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the branch association Silicon Saxony e. V. as well as the (Fraunhofer) research institutions located north of Dresden, contacts can be established quickly and easily. And due to its ideal location near the TU Dresden’s main campus, the TZD’s Location South is predestined as a perfect site for innovation-based companies of the measurement and sensor technology, production technology, material technology, and environmental technology branches. The main focal points of the "Universelle Werke" site include lightweight construction, materials sciences and robotics.

TECHNOLOGIE CENTRUM CHEMNITZ [TECHNOLOGY CENTER CHEMNITZ]

The Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC) [Technology Center Chemnitz] has the right premises for any young enterprise at its three locations. Whether it be state-of-the-art office, lab, and production space, offices in a traditional Wilhelminian-style building, or coworking space: The TCC offers the right mix of a creative environment and a professional workplace, combined with a superb infrastructure, comprehensive consulting and assistance as well as flexible rental agreements which can be adjusted individually to a company’s growth.
Currently, the TCC’s three locations are home to approx. 70 companies. The Technologie Centrum Chemnitz GmbH is a subsidiary of the City of Chemnitz and Chemnitz University of Technology.

SMART SYSTEMS CAMPUS CHEMNITZ

The Smart Systems Campus Chemnitz is a technology park where science, research, and industry work closely together in the field of microsystems technology. The campus, which has a size of almost 4.5 hectares, is located in the immediate vicinity of Chemnitz University of Technology, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS and for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU as well as the microsystems technology enterprises located in the nearby commercial zone.

The campus unites renowned scientific-technical facilities with entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneurship, and economic success. In addition to young, rapidly expanding start-ups, it is also home to globally active enterprises which are among the market leaders in their branch.

BIO CITY LEIPZIG

BIO CITY LEIPZIG is one of the most modern centers for biotechnology and biomedicine in Germany. Primarily start-up enterprises find individual lab and office space with state-of-the-art facilities in the innovation incubator. On a total of 20,000 square meters, both entrepreneurs and researchers have been working hand-in-hand here since 2003. Currently, approx. 25 companies with almost 500 employees have their domicile at BIO CITY. The scientific section of BIO CITY LEIPZIG houses, for example, Leipzig University’s Center for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI).

BIOINNOVATIONSZENTRUMDRESDEN (BIOZ) [BIOINNOVATION CENTER DRESDEN]

“Molecular bioengineering” is the specific focus of the companies and research institutions which work hand-in-hand at the BioInnovationsZentrumDresden (BioZ) [BioInnovationCenter Dresden]. A third of the total room capacity of approx. 15,000 square meters is occupied by six biotechnology professorial chairs from Dresden University of Technology; two thirds of the floor space are currently used by about 20 young enterprises. With its central location in the immediate vicinity of diverse facilities of Dresden University of Technology (CRTD, BIOTEC, the University Hospital “Carl Gustav Carus,” the Medical Theoretical Center) as well as the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), BioZ unites renowned scientific-technical facilities directly with entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneurship, and economic success.
