Siemens Invests in Skeleton Technologies

Siemens is expanding its data center portfolio through a strategic investment and partnership with Skeleton Technologies. Skeleton Technologies develops and manufactures high-performance energy storage systems based on supercapacitors that absorb short-term power spikes.

Siemens will integrate Skeleton's supercapacitor technology into its end-to-end portfolio for electrical infrastructure. The partnership grants Siemens exclusive rights to sell and scale Skeleton's products in the data center market. The new product line expands Siemens’ offerings from grid connection to AI racks.

Siemens has been supporting Skeleton Technologies as a technology partner since 2022 and has also been an investor since 2023. In doing so, Siemens is continuously strengthening its role in the AI infrastructure ecosystem.

The new offering addresses a key challenge in data center expansion: large, highly dynamic, and recurring fluctuations in power demand. AI applications require the coordinated operation of thousands of powerful processors, whose power demand can rise or fall sharply within milliseconds. These fluctuations can add up to load spikes in the megawatt range within just a few seconds. Skeleton’s supercapacitors solve this key industry challenge by acting as electrical shock absorbers: They absorb rapid power fluctuations, protect valuable equipment and the power grid, and simultaneously help operators increase computing density while reducing the need for costly and time-consuming upgrades to existing facilities.

The offering is aimed at the growing ecosystem of companies building hyperscale data centers and AI factories. The offering is designed to enable AI applications with higher power density, reduce grid disruptions, and accelerate the deployment of new capacity without requiring a complete overhaul of data center infrastructure. The solution can be deployed in both existing AC architectures and retrofit projects, while also providing a clear path toward future 800-V DC standards.

Skeleton Technologies was founded in Estonia in 2009. At the end of 2025, the company officially opened a 220-million-euro SuperFactory in Markranstädt near Leipzig—the world’s largest supercapacitor factory. The facility already supplies Siemens, General Electric, and Hitachi Energy for European power grids, as well as major U.S. hyperscalers for AI infrastructure.
