A City District Full of Healthy Ideas

Dresden's Johannstadt district is home to a unique concentration of cutting-edge expertise in the life sciences on just a few square kilometers. Right in the middle of it all: The BioInnovationCenter Dresden (BioZ), which offers space for researchers and young entrepreneurs under its roof.

Dresden-Johannstadt is home to internationally renowned top research centers in the fields of regenerative medicine and oncology:

  • BIOTEC, CRTD and B CUBE - the institutes of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB) at TU Dresden
  • Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG)
  • University Hospital with University Cancer Center Dresden (UCC)
  • National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology "OncoRay"
  • National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Dresden

  

One third of the space at the BioInnovationCenter Dresden (BioZ) is occupied by six biotechnology chairs at the Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden), while two thirds of the space is currently used by almost 20 young companies. With its central location in the immediate vicinity of the above-mentioned institutes, the BioZ combines renowned scientific and technical institutions with entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

Almost 20 years after the opening of the BioInnovationCenter Dresden (BioZ) on the Tatzberg venue, the construction of the new BioInnovationCenter Dresden 2 began in September 2023. The high utilization of the BioZ urgently requires the expansion, the life sciences industry is waiting for the new laboratory, workshop and office space typical of the industry.
