Civil engineering company with a focus on circular construction
Hentschke Bau, based in Bautzen, is a medium-sized family business with around 700 employees from twelve nations and its own precast concrete plant. The in-house research and development department focuses, among other things, on resource-conserving and circular construction.
Other R&D topics include extending the service life of buildings, cement reduction and the use of natural fibers - in short, improving sustainability in construction. The East Saxon construction company has also set up its own building materials research campus, including a laboratory.
Current research projects include geopolymer concrete, the automated evaluation of monitoring data from bridge structures and the use of renewable raw materials. Today, cement is responsible for around seven percent of globalCO2 emissions and the use of alternative, preferably regional raw materials is therefore very important. Industrial hemp in particular is very promising here. Hemp also offers many advantages from an agricultural point of view, such as for crop rotation, soil improvement, support for bees and the environment as a whole.
Hentschke Bau is also conducting research in the areas of modular construction and lightweight construction. Particularly durable carbon concrete, the increased use of prefabricated parts through to small complete bridges that can be built within a few days, as well as improved formulas with lower resource consumption are just some of the current projects that are also to be presented and further developed in the technical center.
