In recent years, major investments have been made in machinery and plant technology as well as in the construction of new halls. Textilausrüstung Pfand is also known for its successes in implementing research and development projects together with corporate customers and other partners.

One of these research projects was called "Knittronic" and consisted of the development and characterization of reliable, smart, electronic textiles based on knitted fabrics that are stretchable and elastic and whose electrical resistance should not change despite stress. The aim of the sub-project of Textilausrüstung Pfand GmbH was to research the finishing of textiles in which conductive thread materials are integrated. The physical textile properties of the new textiles to be developed posed a major challenge, as the finishing parameters depend on them to a large extent and had to be adapted accordingly. Various possible functionalizations were developed and tested during the project. Planned areas of application for the developments include sensor textiles, luminous textiles and heating textiles.
