Hemp-based bio-based composites
FUSE stands for "Natural Fibers in Use". In the spirit of environmentally friendly production, FUSE manufactures 100% bio-based composite materials from natural fibres for lightweight construction, thereby supporting the decarbonization of the industry.
Production is based on the use of suitable, high-quality hemp fibers. The mechanical properties of the end products are on a par with glass fibers, and in some properties they are even superior. Our bio-based composites can therefore easily replace the synthetic composite materials used to date in many products. In order to meet the increasing market demand and the development of industrial series applications in the future, FUSE is already investing in the development of its own infrastructure in order to be able to provide sufficient suitable hemp fiber materials. FUSE composite production is therefore being supplemented in parallel by the company's own fiber production.
FUSE's basic product is the so-called FUSE UD tapes with a fabric width of 20 or 40 cm as thermoset or thermoplastic processable variants. These can be used as a UD layer in the product and can also be processed into further semi-finished products for various manufacturing processes. In this way, subsequent semi-finished products can be produced on the basis of FUSE UD tapes.
The snowboard manufacturer Silbaerg from Chemnitz produces an A.L.D.-tech.® HEMP snowboard using FUSE micro-DU tapes. The tape is processed into A.L.D.-tech.® Hemp Preforms using dry fiber placement and is already used as a standard component in the series production of the so-called Silbaerg "Shreddomat" snowboard. The ski and snowboard manufacturer SpurArt from Innsbruck is producing a "hemp ski" using FUSE Composite UD tapes in order to establish hemp fibers as a sustainable alternative to glass and carbon fibers.
