Local food production in Leipzig, the Sahara or the Alps

Leipzig-based greenhub solutions GmbH develops comprehensive hardware and software solutions that transform indoor farms into high-precision, data-driven production systems. The aim is nothing less than the "autopilot for indoor farms".

Just a few decades ago, food production was taken for granted. Today, it is at the center of global challenges: Climate change, water scarcity, unstable supply chains and a growing world population are fundamentally changing the rules. In this new reality, companies are emerging that are not only developing agriculture, but completely rethinking it. One of these is Leipzig-based greenhub solutions GmbH, which was founded in 2023.

The founders Kay Plat and Alexander Jaworski realized that the future of agriculture would no longer be decided on fields alone, but increasingly in highly automated production environments. Together with their interdisciplinary team, they are focusing on one of the most dynamic future sectors of agriculture: indoor agriculture, consisting of greenhouses and vertical farming, internationally known as "Controlled Environment Agriculture" (CEA).

At the heart of greenhub's technology is the specially developed GreenFarm OS: an independent operating system for complete control of the production environment. The software networks sensors, cameras, climate control, lighting, irrigation and nutrient supply to create an end-to-end digital ecosystem. Data is recorded and analyzed in real time and translated into specific recommendations for action and automatic control processes.

In addition, greenhub offers the "GreenResearcher", a specialized data collection and analysis tool for research and breeding. It enables the precise control of individual growth parameters such as light, temperature, CO₂ and nutrient dosage, thus creating reproducible test conditions - a crucial prerequisite for modern plant research and the training of the next generation of agronomists.

The success of the Leipzig-based start-up is based on strong collaborations: The agri-tech company works closely with research institutions such as Chemnitz University of Technology, the Max Planck Institute in Cologne and Fraunhofer, and has been able to attract well-known partners such as Siemens, for whose company restaurants it has implemented vertical farming models. Growth is also supported by the Sächsische Beteiligungsgesellschaft (SBG) as part of StartupLab Sachsen. The Free State of Saxony has also supported the development of greenhub through SAB funding programs, thereby helping to build up internationally compatible agricultural technology expertise in Leipzig.

With its interdisciplinary team from the fields of agricultural science, mechanical engineering, software development and data analysis, greenhub solutions is positioning itself as a technological enabler for resilient, digital and sustainable agriculture "Made in Saxony".
