One millionth Porsche Macan from Leipzig rolls off the production line
The Porsche plant in Leipzig produced its one millionth Macan last week. The compact SUV has been rolling off the production line in the trade fair city since 2013 and has enjoyed great popularity worldwide ever since. In the 2024 financial year, 82,795 vehicles were delivered to customers.
The anniversary vehicle is a Macan 4 in the eye-catching color Frozenbluemetallic.
"The Macan is inextricably linked to Leipzig," says Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Management Board of Porsche Leipzig GmbH. "The model stands for growth and change like no other: the compact SUV symbolizes both the expansion of the site into a full plant in the years 2011 to 2013 and the start of the plant into the age of electromobility."
The decision in favor of Leipzig as a production location was made in 2011. The former assembly plant was then extensively expanded and developed into a full plant with its own body shop and paint shop. 1,500 new jobs were created.
"With the Macan, Porsche has developed into one of the most important economic drivers and employers in the Central German region over the past twelve years," says Rupp. The second vehicle generation with fully electric drive went into series production in 2024. The plant is growing once again with the addition of another body shop and an axle production facility. Today, the plant produces three drive types - petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles - in a highly flexible manner on one production line.
The Porsche plant in Leipzig started production in 2002 as the second Porsche production site alongside the headquarters in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Around 5,000 employees manufacture the Macan and Panamera models here. The Cayenne SUV rolled off the production line in Leipzig until 2017 and the legendary Carrera GT super sports car from 2003 to 2006.
The plant also includes a Porsche Experience Center with a circuit and off-road track. The site has received several awards for its smart production and sustainable orientation, including the "Lean and Green Management Award" in 2021 and "Factory of the Year" in 2023.
