EU: 100 million euros for chip industry talent factory in Dresden
The EU Commission has announced funding of around 100 million euros for the STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe) project for the new EXZELLENZ vocational school center (BSZ) for electrical engineering in Dresden. The total costs of the school construction project amount to around 136.2 million euros.
The EU is now making 100 million euros of this available from funding from the ERDF/JTF program.
Saxony's Economics Minister Dirk Panter commented: "This is a good day for Saxon industry. Excellently trained specialists are the key to successful companies. In this respect, the new BSZ Electrical Engineering has a real key position. It will ensure that "Silicon Saxony" can continue to grow. We are delighted that the EU is supporting us in keeping Saxony fit for the future as a business location with the help of training and innovation. The new BSZ will be a real beacon with which we want to attract trainees from all over Germany and our neighboring countries to Saxony."
Saxony's Minister of Culture Conrad Clemens adds: "Saxony is becoming the training heart of the semiconductor industry. High technology does not begin in the laboratory, but in the classroom. This 100 million milestone from the EU is catapulting our specialist training into the future - a huge opportunity for young people in Saxony."
The BSZ for electrical engineering (Berufliches Schulzentrum für Elektrotechnik Dresden) in Dresden will have a modern learning environment for the urgently needed training of specialists in critical technologies such as microelectronics. The educational campus is to be built in the Prohlis district over the next few years.
