Saxony on the road in Taiwan, Japan and Singapore

Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer is traveling to Asia until October 5, 2025. At the same time, Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter will be traveling to Taiwan and Japan from September 27 to October 4, 2025. Both will visit Saxony's presentation at the Expo world exhibition in Osaka.

Prime Minister Kretschmer's trip will take him to Taipei and Hsinchu (Taiwan), Osaka (Japan) and Singapore. In Taiwan and Japan, he will be accompanied by a delegation of over 50 representatives from politics, business, science and culture; in Singapore, the delegation will consist of around 35 participants. The trip to Asia is intended to cultivate the cultural and economic relations of the Free State of Saxony with strategically important partner states in East Asia and with Taiwan and to deepen political relations with Japan and Singapore. At the same time, the trip aims to address potential investors in the environment of internationally active semiconductor and electronics companies and to position Saxony as an innovative production, development and investment location. As part of the trip, Minister President Michael Kretschmer will also take part in the celebrations to mark the Day of German Unity.

In Taiwan and Japan, the Minister President's delegation will be accompanied in part by Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter. One focus of the joint program in Taiwan will be talks and visits to the semiconductor industry - including TSMC. This part of the program ties in with Dirk Panter's trip to the SEMICON Taiwan 2025 trade fair. In Japan, Dirk Panter's program includes company visits to the IT group Fujitsu in Kawasaki and to the semiconductor suppliers Ebara (industrial pumps) and Tekscend Photomask (photomasks) in Tokyo. These Japanese companies are closely linked to Saxony as a business location: Fujitsu owns the company GK Software SE in Schöneck (Vogtlandkreis); Ebara Precision Machinery Europe GmbH and Tekscend Photomask Germany GmbH are based in the microelectronics location of Dresden.

The trip(s) were organized in cooperation with Saxony Trade & Invest Corp. (WFS).

20.5 million visitors to date, 160 nations and regions, 80 pavilions: Expo 2025 in Osaka is breaking all records. The Free State of Saxony is also using the mega-event in the Far East to present itself on the international stage and is organizing a Saxon State Day for the first time on 1 October in the German Pavilion. Visitors can expect a varied stage program of culture, music, culinary delights and arts and crafts on 1 October.

Saxony's exports to Japan reached a new high in 2024. The volume of exports amounted to 1.012 billion euros. The majority was accounted for by automotive and mechanical engineering products as well as electrical engineering. A new record is on the horizon for 2025: In the first half of the year, exports to Japan were already 30 percent higher than the previous year's level. Imports from Japan to the Free State were worth 680.7 million euros last year.
