BioCity Campus continues to grow: CTC moves into research building in Leipzig

The BioCity Campus Leipzig continues to grow: with the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC), an important non-university research facility is being added to the campus.

The "Center for the Transformation of Chemistry" is expected to create over 1,000 jobs, most of them in Delitzsch. In future, however, around 80 people will also work for the research center in Leipzig. This will expand Leipzig's innovation ecosystem in the field of life sciences to include the future field of circular chemistry.

Since December 15, 2025, the CTC has been renting laboratory and office space on the BioCity Campus, initially on a temporary basis. Workspaces for up to 80 employees from research and transfer are planned. The first 25 employees will start work in Leipzig at the beginning of 2026.

The CTC is moving into the CityLab Leipzig (CLL) building, which has been establishing itself as a location for digital health research and life sciences since 2025. Around 8,600 square meters of modern office and laboratory space with flexible rental units from 850 square meters and space for a total of around 300 workstations will be available there. Eight of the ten rental spaces have already been let. In addition to the CTC, the Health Innovators Group Leipzig and DOCYET have already moved in.

The City of Leipzig provided support for the necessary expansion work and used two million euros from the "New Power for a Strong Leipzig Economy" program to create specialist infrastructure for life sciences and biochemistry. The laboratory space is operated by the municipal subsidiary Leipziger Gewerbehof GmbH (LGH), which has been maintaining special properties such as the BioCube and BioCity for over 20 years and is currently also building a new innovation center in Hall 12 - right next door.

The BioCity Campus Leipzig is a magnet for the Saxon life sciences scene. Covering over 100,000 square meters, it brings together research institutes, (non-)university institutions, start-ups and established biotech companies. The campus is closely interlinked with the University Medical Center and the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI, not only in terms of space but also in terms of content.
