ITF World Transport Forum in Leipzig
From May 6 – 8, Leipzig will once again host the OECD International Transport Forum (ITF), making it a hub for international mobility and transport policy.
Since 2008, ministers, representatives of international organizations, and leading figures from the worlds of business, academia, and politics have been gathering in Saxony. Azerbaijan is chairing this year’s forum, whose theme is “Funding Resilient Transport.” The summit focuses on the question of how investments and financing strategies must be structured to make transport infrastructure more resilient and ensure long-term efficiency and reliability.
As a “Regional Partner,” the German Federal State of Saxony is participating again this year and, with its own exhibition booth, is highlighting the planned new Dresden-Prague railway line. The project is considered one of the most important infrastructure projects for Saxony and for cross-border connectivity in Europe. The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) supports cooperation among the partners and helps accelerate planning and approval processes. The new line will make an important contribution to strengthening the resilience of the European transport network in the future.
During the forum, Saxony’s State Secretary for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Sören Trillenberg, will meet on Thursday with, among others, the Secretary-General of the ITF, Dr. Young Tae Kim.
Background
The World Transport Forum is the world’s most important platform for exchange on transport policy. Since 2008, the annual summit has been held in Leipzig, bringing together more than 1,200 participants from 69 member countries. Leipzig will remain the venue for the forum at least until 2027. The German Federal State of Saxony has strongly advocated for continuing to host this important flagship event of the ITF in Leipzig. Leipziger Messe GmbH has submitted a bid as part of the re-tendering process following 2027.
