Dresden: Construction Boom in the Semiconductor Industry Attracts Suppliers

As semiconductor factories in northern Dresden continue to expand, numerous industry suppliers are setting up operations in the surrounding area. In 2025, Dresden’s economic development agency supported twelve companies from various sectors in making investments in the region.

These include high-tech companies setting up operations here, as well as new business ventures and startups. Dresden’s strong appeal as the heart of the European semiconductor industry is gaining increasing international recognition, leading to inquiries from Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore, among others.

“Dresden is growing as a hub in key future-oriented industries such as microelectronics. The fact that globally active companies are investing here proves that a permanent presence in Dresden is now considered absolutely essential,” said Dresden’s Mayor for Economic Affairs, Jan Pratzka

New companies strengthen existing ecosystems

The twelve new business locations specifically complement established value chains and drive innovation in Dresden. For example, Mitutoyo from Japan, the global market leader in precision length measurement technology, is showcasing attractive solutions for the semiconductor and electronics industries at its new competence center in the TechnologieZentrum Dresden-Süd.

“We have been active in Dresden for quite some time. The arrival of ESMC and investments by other semiconductor manufacturers are propelling the city into a different league on the international stage. That is why we now want to support our customers right here in Dresden,” explains Wolfgang Zeller, Managing Director of Mitutoyo Deutschland GmbH.

With Marketech International Corp. from Taiwan and the market leader in laboratory automation, Elemental Scientific Inc. from the U.S., two internationally active suppliers for semiconductor manufacturing are also establishing themselves, directly strengthening the dynamically growing microelectronics cluster Silicon Saxony. The establishment of Pfaffelhuber Recycling with a new location in Cossebaude expands local circular economy expertise and contributes to the sustainable development and use of resources in Dresden.

Saxony’s medium-sized suppliers are also growing

Dresden-based DAS Environmental Experts GmbH—a specialized provider of environmental technologies—recently announced the opening of a second service office in northern Dresden. With this move, DAS Environmental Experts is strengthening its presence in the European semiconductor cluster Silicon Saxony and responding to rising demand resulting from growing manufacturing capacities in the region. The opening coincides with the environmental technology company’s 35th anniversary. The additional location is situated in the immediate vicinity of key semiconductor manufacturing facilities. The goal is to provide services more quickly and efficiently directly at the site of value creation.

“DAS Environmental Experts exemplifies how every new job created in semiconductor manufacturing generates approximately three additional jobs in the supplier industry within the ecosystem. DAS’s investment underscores this effect. This development also demonstrates how the high-tech cluster is becoming increasingly concentrated and how value creation is gaining depth and quality,” says Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of Silicon Saxony.
