More Space for Growth at Radiopharmaceutics Location Dresden
Dresden-Rossendorf is a leading center for research and business, particularly in the field of radiopharmacy. The city of Dresden invested approximately 7.2 million euros in the development of new commercial spaces along Rossendorfer Ring, in part to attract businesses from this sector.
Approximately 5.1 million euros were invested in the expansion of the Rossendorfer Ring for road construction, compensatory and replacement measures, and the noise barrier. In addition, 2.1 million euros were spent on the acquisition of the land. Just under 2.1 million euros in state and federal funding supported the project.
The Rossendorfer Ring underwent a major expansion over a stretch of approximately 1,100 meters. The roadway was widened to seven meters, and a three-meter-wide sidewalk was also constructed. In collaboration with SachsenEnergie, utility lines for drinking water and wastewater, electricity, telecommunications, and broadband, as well as road drainage and lighting, were replaced.
“Radiopharmacy, in particular, brings together research, industrial production, and medical applications in Dresden and offers significant growth opportunities. Through our commitment, we are creating the physical conditions necessary for companies to continue investing here and for new jobs to be created,” said Dresden’s Mayor for Economic Affairs, Jan Pratzka. With the completion of the Rossendorfer Ring, Dresden now has a modern infrastructure and a total of 10.45 hectares of net commercial space. Of this, approximately 6.75 hectares are still available and can be offered to interested companies in the future. Together with the adjacent former concrete plant, Dresden-Rossendorf is to be sustainably secured and expanded as an attractive innovation hub.
To support the long-term development of the site, the Saxony state capital of Dresden has also acquired the adjacent former concrete plant for approximately 4.3 million euros. In the future, the site is intended to create a physical connection between the Rossendorfer Ring industrial park and the research campus of the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).
- Radiopharmacy as an Important Economic Sector
Over the decades, a dynamic ecosystem of science and business has developed around the HZDR. As a result, Dresden is one of the few locations in Europe where the entire radiopharmaceutical value chain is concentrated in a single place. In Dresden-Rossendorf, radiopharmaceuticals are researched, developed, and produced, and later administered to patients at Dresden’s hospitals. This structure creates ideal conditions for rapidly translating innovations into patient care. Through the nukliD® – Radiopharmacy Cluster, key players from research and industry have joined forces to consolidate and further expand this locational advantage.
The site’s growth is also evident in the investments made by companies already based there. ROTOP Pharmaka is currently building a new CMO center with an investment volume of approximately 50 million euros and creating about 60 new jobs. Eckert & Ziegler inaugurated a new facility at the site two years ago.
