Overall textile expertise - machine, technology and product developments
The Institute of Textile Machinery and High-Performance Materials Technology (ITM) at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) is one of the world's leading university research institutes in the field of textile and clothing technology.
The Institute ITM at TU Dresden has a modern infrastructure for the successful implementation of its diverse research projects, which enables the ITM to rapidly develop completely new technologies and innovative products.
Research activities at the ITM are focused on machine, technology and product development along the entire process chain for high-tech textile applications, coupled with the implementation of fully automated, digitally networked and simulation-supported process chains with maximum resource efficiency and sustainability. The ITM carries out extensive research and development work in the field of fiber- and textile-based high-performance materials and the production technologies required for high-tech applications, e.g. function-integrating lightweight structures suitable for stresses, textile semi-finished products in the bio and medical sectors, adaptive sensor-actuator networks and integrated microsystems technology as well as reinforcement structures for the construction industry that meet requirements
The research work concentrates primarily on the areas of lightweight construction, textile concrete and medical textiles. These require in particular the development of novel thread and hybrid yarn constructions, 2D and 3D reinforcement semi-finished products, finishing and functionalization techniques as well as the necessary machine technologies. CAE cutting designs, manufacturing techniques for technical textiles, new developments in functional textiles as well as measurement and simulation techniques round off the versatile research spectrum at the ITM.
