Research on textile material
The Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) has been assisting companies in developing marketable innovations for over 30 years.
With a clear focus on sustainability, the environment, health, and safety, STFI offers forward-looking research, textile testing, and certification of personal protective equipment. As an independent industrial research institute and a member of the ZUSE network, the institute has been based in Chemnitz since 1992.
A leader in nonwovens and mechanical recycling, STFI plays a pioneering role in the transformation of the circular economy, including the recycling of high-performance fibers such as carbon fibers. Technical woven and knitted fabrics, the functionalization and digitization of textile processes, and the use of AI expand the institute’s technological spectrum. Based on scientific research, experts develop sustainable ecological solutions for practical application and ensure that the textile products and processes of tomorrow are safe. In this way, long-standing experience becomes the foundation for the economic success of small and medium-sized enterprises in particular.
The STFI’s technical facilities and laboratories offer a comprehensive portfolio of industrial equipment on an industrial and semi-industrial scale, enabling rapid transfer into industrial processes. In addition, the STFI draws on a strong network within the international industry and the European research landscape. Through the STFI Academy, experienced trainers from the institute share their knowledge across the textile value chain to provide training and continuing education for skilled workers.
With expertise and a keen eye for detail, the STFI also excels in textile testing and analysis as well as in the certification of personal protective equipment (PPE). With a comprehensive range of accredited testing procedures and a passion for the crucial step toward market approval of PPE, the STFI stands reliably by its partners’ side.
