Specialist for bag forming
Pouch packaging for food is widely used. FormerFab® GmbH, based in Freital near Dresden, supplies a key component for the corresponding packaging machines: it develops and produces customized forming shoulders for tubular bag machines.
These forming shoulders, also known as forming collars or folding boxes, ensure that a tube is formed from web-shaped material through continuous forming, which is closed with a longitudinal seam. FormerFab produces forming shoulders for everything from the smallest bags to forming elements for huge pipelines.
The forming shoulders are optimized for the respective application, the packaging material - including papers or paper composites - and the machine type and delivered ready for installation. Flexible papers, which are increasingly appearing on supermarket shelves, can be used for secondary packaging as well as primary packaging for fatty products such as chocolate. You can now even find paper packaging on frozen food shelves, which has a so-called water vapor barrier. Maximum precision is required to ensure that the bags are leak-proof; the paper must not be damaged, creased or wrinkled during the forming process. The forming shoulders from FormerFab® for horizontal flowpack machines are unique in the world and enable paper packaging with an asymmetrical, off-center seam instead of the standard symmetrical, centered seam.
Founded in 2004, the medium-sized company owns numerous patents, including the mathematical calculation program for forming shoulder geometry developed by company founder Henry Drut. In particular, this program makes it possible to design and manufacture forming shoulders for applications with highly sensitive flexible papers. Thanks to its expertise, FormerFab® GmbH has established itself as one of the international industry leaders. With just over 30 employees, it supplies packaging machine manufacturers, end users and contract packagers in over 50 countries.
