For about 200 years now, such globally coveted mechanical engineering products as, for example, textile, tool, and printing machines have been coming from Saxony. Today, Saxony is still a top location for such globally active enterprises as, for example, Siemens, NILES-SIMMONS, Starrag, and Koenig & Bauer. With about 45,000 employees in approx. 1,000 firms, the industry sector contributes about 11 percent to the industrial turnover and approx. 14 percent to Saxony’s foreign sales.

Due to the interplay of its extensive microelectronics (“Silicon Saxony”), mechanical engineering, and software competences, Saxony has gained specific expertise in innovative automation technology / robotics.
