The economy in Saxony has grown by over 30 percent since 2000, recording one of the highest GDP growth rates of any German federal state.

The level of education of the employable population in Saxony is higher than in Germany and in most EU and OECD countries. 94 percent of Saxons have at least a university entrance qualification or have completed vocational training (OECD average: 80 percent). Saxony is also the educational leader in Germany and scores highly in terms of school quality, research orientation and the prevention of educational poverty.

Saxony's great innovative strength was and is a major asset. This is confirmed by the EU "Regional Innovation Scoreboard": Saxony is a European "Strong Innovator".

DHL operates its European air freight hub - the DHL Hub Leipzig - at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Cargoliners can be handled here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Alongside Cincinatti (USA) and Hong Kong (China), Leipzig is DHL's third main global hub. Leipzig/Halle Airport is Germany's second and Europe's fifth largest cargo airport.
