Artificial intelligence with strategy
With its specific R&D and industrial structure, Saxony is one of the few regions that has excellent potential in both software / algorithms and hardware / system development. Strategic areas of action are formulated in Saxony's AI strategy.
Research plays a crucial role—together with business and industry—in implementing the Free State of Saxony's AI strategy. AI in research is becoming increasingly important in Saxony, both as a subject of research and as a tool in the natural and engineering sciences, the life sciences, and the humanities and social sciences, e.g., in the context of systems research.
New, cooperation-based institutions such as the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (ScaDS.AI) with locations in Leipzig and Dresden play an important role in research and transfer in the field of AI. As one of a total of five centers of excellence in the field of artificial intelligence that are permanently funded jointly by the federal and state governments, ScaDS.AI is a central component in the implementation of the federal government's AI strategy. The center is intended to make significant contributions to Germany's technological excellence and sovereignty in the field of big data/data analytics.
Saxony's particular potential in AI stems from the region's relevant strengths in the design and technology of semiconductor systems. This enables the development of AI system architectures that promise enormous application potential, e.g., in the areas of next-generation computing and edge computing. Another focus area is neuromorphic computing.
