Production technology for lithium-ion batteries is one of the key research and development activities of the plant construction specialist ThyssenKrupp System Engineering GmbH today. In a battery technology center in Pleißa near Chemnitz specialists develop and test assembly systems for the production of cells and batteries. Their objective is a resource-efficient and modular plant technology which helps reduce production costs and increase the quality of lithium-ion batteries. For example, BMW already produces the batteries for its BMW i3 from Leipzig on assembly lines made by ThyssenKrupp.

One of the market leaders for metallization systems is the VTD Vakuumtechnik Dresden GmbH.
