Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH, Engine Plant Chemnitz

Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH’s Engine Plant Chemnitz supplies the vehicle factories of the Volkswagen Group with modern gasoline engines and components. The daily capacity amounts to 3,000 engines. Balance shafts for diesel engines and integrated valve train modules are also produced in Chemnitz.

The factory once again demonstrated its pioneering role and technological leadership in start up management as well as product and process innovations just recently during the introduction of a new engine generation. Chemnitz has become the exclusive site to produce the efficient three and four cylinder gasoline engines of the EA 211 model series.

The plant is also a competence center for further innovations. Together with partners from the region, the team has designed a light, emission-saving, integrated valve train module for which it also developed a new, efficient assembly procedure. This innovation was rolled out from Chemnitz to other engine-manufacturing locations of the Volkswagen Group.

The production processes in the Engine Plant Chemnitz are defined by high tech processing centers, technically sophisticated and complex assembly lines as well as state of the art test centers and a superbly educated and trained staff. With a new, professional maintenance and service concept, systems for human-robot cooperation, and other flexible assembly technologies, Chemnitz is one of the leading global engine production sites.
