Due to its advantageous geographic location, Saxony is the ideal logistics location for distributing goods throughout Europe, regardless of the direction. The region around Leipzig is one of Germany’s most dynamic logistics locations. 

Its central location has proven to be a real geographical advantage for Saxony. Which is why the logistics giant DHL decided to relocate its European air cargo hub from Brussels to Leipzig. At Leipzig / Halle Airport, cargo liners can be handled 24 hours per day and 365 days per year; the best possible prerequisite for mastering the constantly increasing airfreight volume. In addition to Cincinnati (USA) and Hong Kong (China), Leipzig is DHL’s third global hub.

Intermodal Transport - Powerful Freight Villages

Customized commercial properties, a perfectly linked infrastructure, and the availability of 24/7 operations are provided by Saxony‘s three Freight Villages (GVZ) at five locations. 

The GVZ Leipzig is integrated into the trimodal network. Saxony’s largest industrial and distribution park directly adjoins Leipzig / Halle Airport, is linked to the federal expressways A9 Berlin-Munich and A14 Dresden-Magdeburg, and has its own rail access including a container depot and a terminal for combined transport. 

The GVZ Dresden is characterized by its direct access to the federal expressways A4, A13, A17 as well as to the rail network and the waterways network of the Elbe River. Goods are loaded and unloaded between road and rail at a transshipment station. 

Unlike many other Freight Villages in Germany, the GVZ Südwestsachsen has a decentralized structure. It consists of the core module Glauchau – in the vicinity of Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH’s vehicle production plant – as well as the modules Chemnitz and Zwickau. All locations provide optimal access to rail and road routes.
