With 28 professorships and more than 1,800 students, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) is one of the university’s largest faculties. Its outstanding competences in production engineering have given the faculty a unique identity as a superb instructional and research facility of international renown. The degree courses in mechanical engineering reflect the university’s specific profile lines – “Intelligent Systems and Materials,” “Energy-efficient Production Processes and Lightweight Construction ” as well as “Human Factors in Technologies.”

DRESDEN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, FACULTY OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

“Technology without borders” – for more than 180 years now, the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) has dedicated itself to technology serving humanity. With over 6,000 students, it is the TU Dresden’s largest faculty. All told, the five degree courses Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Natural Materials Technology, Materials Science, Mechatronics, and Renewable Energy Systems unite 25 specializations – ranging from general mechanical engineering all the way to food engineering, from energy efficiency to applied materials science, and from lightweight engineering to aerospace engineering.

UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES ZWICKAU (WHZ), FACULTY OF AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTION AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

With its degree courses in Automotive Production, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Management & Engineering, the Faculty of Automotive Production and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ) provides comprehensive education and training – with the university’s typical focus on the automobile industry. With its bachelor’s / master’s degree course Textile Structures and Technologies, the WHZ caters to the needs and requirements of the textile industry, which has a long tradition specifically in the Vogtland region, for technical textiles and lightweight design with fiber composites. The master’s level degree course, which is implemented together with the TU Chemnitz, trains and educates graduates who develop creative and innovative solutions for textile applications in machine, vehicle, and plant construction.

FREIBERG UNIVERSITY OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY (TUBAF), FACULTY OF MECHANICAL, PROCESS AND ENERGY ENGINEERING

Parallel to the region’s mining tradition, which dates back to the 12th century, Freiberg has evolved into a location for mechanical engineering schools. The founding of today’s Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (TUBAF) in 1765, which is the world’s oldest, still existing university focusing on mining sciences, laid the cornerstone for scientific instruction in these disciplines. More than 1,200 students are currently enrolled at the TUBAF’s Faculty of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering. True to its guiding principle “The University of Resources,” the university contributes its outstanding core competences, above all, in the field of resource and energy efficiency also to those degree courses which are relevant to mechanical engineering.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering at Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW) educates and trains engineers in the modularized mechanical engineering programs in general mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, and production technology which award the traditional German Diplom-Ingenieur degree. 

UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES MITTWEIDA

In addition to instruction and research in the degree courses Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, the degree course Laser Technology reflects the field of expertise at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida (HSMW). Starting in the winter semester 2016 / 2017, the university plans to offer a bachelor’s and a master’s level degree course called “Automation – Industry 4.0.”
