The Bharat Forge Aluminiumtechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Brand-Erbisdorf, a member of the Indian Kalyani Group, is a specialist for the development and production of weight-optimized functional parts on behalf of the automobile industry. Towards this end, the company acts in a consistently sustainable manner, for example, when it comes to the recycling of aluminum scrap in its own factory. One of the latest in-house developments is the „adforge“ production process which not only saves energy, but also permits the manufacture of complex parts and components which are not forgeable with conventional methods. A new, innovative precursor material – „HCM“ (horizontal casting material) – provides above average strength potential and high corrosion resistance, and it scores points with its lower energy consumption in production.

The surface specialists protect both the front axle module of the BMW i8 and the undercarriage of the BMW i3 against corrosion. By applying a special cathodic dip coating (CDC) procedure and thanks to the competences that have been developed in the bonding sector, the ready-to-assemble aluminum components can be attached directly to the carbon passenger compartment in the BMW Plant Leipzig. In addition to cathodic dip coating, the BENSELER Beschichtungen Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG also provides electrostatic powder coating and wet coating. The BENSELER Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG specializes in diverse deburring processes.

THYSSENKRUPP AG IN KESSELSDORF: TECH CENTER CARBON COMPOSITES + THYSSENKRUPP CARBON COMPONENTS GMBH

Since 2013, the ThyssenKrupp AG has been pooling its activities revolving around high performance lightweight components made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP) in its Tech Center Carbon Composites in Kesselsdorf near Dresden. A primary focus of the development work is on production and simulation technologies for a broad range of materials, including hybrid materials made of steel and CFRP.

The main business area of the ThyssenKrupp Carbon Components GmbH, which was founded in 2012 as a joint venture of Thyssen- Krupp and a spin-off of Dresden University of Technology’s Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK), is the development and production of such vehicle components as, for example, lightweight CFRP wheels which entail weight savings between 30 and 50 percent when compared to conventional aluminum rims.

WEIDPLAS GERMANY GMBH, TREUEN PRODUCTION SITE

As a systems supplier for renowned automobile manufacturers and automotive suppliers, the IndiKar Individual Karosseriebau GmbH from Wilkau-Haßlau is active in the competence fields engineering, materials development, vehicle armoring as well as prototype construction and small batch production. A specific focus is on armoring vehicles for civil and military purposes while using lightweight materials for higher protection at a lower weight.

In addition to its focus on sheet metal forming, the Meleghy Automotive Bernsbach GmbH is also the center of expertise for plastics processing within the North Rhine-Westphalian Meleghy Automotive Group. In a special in-house production area for the manufacture of composites, the company not only produces crash-relevant structural components made of glass-mat-reinforced polypropylene or polyamide, but also such flat panel components as, for example, undercarriage protection made of a special thermoplastic material. The products are used in hybrid and electric vehicles.
